For a long time I believed large paintings are the way to have a big impact. However, Last Christmas when I painted custom ornaments of houses on a smaller surface I realized the impact of  these small surfaces. It  was more intimate and powerful, allowing you to hold and admire it closely. When I started the Fernweh collection I knew I wanted to paint expansive landscapes on a small canvas. I love the feeling when I can hold the painting in my hand and look at every detail and texture, which is sometimes easy to miss when you observe from a distance . I love painting both at a large and small scale, one isn’t better than the other but very different. I feel a home needs both big and small paintings.

Here are ways you can incorporate  small art in pockets of your home to create  warm and special spaces. Small paintings can create big splashes on any surface.

Your own arrangement : Small paintings can go in unique places. You can also display them on bathroom shelves, instantly adding charm and character. Placing these paintings on the surface of these areas is also great because it does not damage walls and can be easily exchanged for another painting depending on your mood or the season.

Display on a Bookshelf : Small paintings are perfect to decorate and update your bookshelves. Place a small canvas painting on a stack of books or use them as bookends.

Accentuates all home decors: Small paintings are great because they can go along with any home decor you may have such as vases, picture frames or plants. It is a great way to mix and match your own personal decor with a beautiful picture scene. Let your large walls be for big pieces and hang these small pieces on a narrow wall to turn it into an inspiring space.

Intimate: When creating on a smaller surface the artist is more intentional of the details put into the piece. The viewer can also intimately hold the painting while they observe it and take in all the details without being overwhelmed with the size of the artwork.
